In October 2018, the IPCC announced that humanity’s carbon budget is equivalent to only 12 years. After this period, on current emissions level, global warming will exceed 1.5C, the preferable threshold of the Paris Agreement. A quantum leap is nevertheless possible: halving emissions every decade until 2050, while increasing the size of carbon sinks. Calculated by some of the world’s top climate scientists, this trajectory is known as a Carbon Law, and inspired by Moore’s Law—a conjecture that propelled technological acceleration since the 1960s.

Energy, agriculture, industry, transportation, buildings: through sectoral examples from the forthcoming “The Frontiers of Impact Tech" report, Benjamin Tincq will present how the alliance of digital technologies, scientific progress and systems thinking can provide answers to the climate emergency.
